100 years in business!

Campbell Tyson Chartered Accountants celebrate 100 years in business this year

The founding practice commenced in the Legal Chambers building on King Street Pukekohe on 1st March 1922 and now, one hundred years on, Campbell Tyson is excited to begin the year-long celebration of it’s Centennial.

Over the last century the firm has seen considerable change in the world and accounting landscape; the introduction of computers, the internet, mobile communications, significant changes to tax legislation including the introduction of GST, and more recently, helping clients through a global pandemic.

The firm has had a “ring-side” view of how the Franklin District has ebbed, flowed, and developed over this time. The various locations the firm has occupied locally is testimony to this. Since Ernest Wilkinson commenced practice in the Legal Chambers building, the firm has operated out of many different locations (and sometimes multiple locations at the same time) including:

• the Knowles Building in King Street,
• “Professional Chambers” at 209 King Street,
• the NZ Dairy Company building in Roulston Street,
• the old ASB Building at the top of King Street,
• Franklin County Council Chambers,
• Hall Street (in several locations, but spent 32 years in the purpose-built  building on the corner of Stadium Drive and Hall Street),
• 1 Wesley Street Pukekohe (2013 - Present),
• 14 Main Road in Te Kauwhata (2018 - Present),
• 116 Great South Road in Papakura (2020 - Present).

The firm has also been known by many different names throughout its long history, the current name recognises the “Campbell” being Malcolm Campbell (1925) and “Tyson” being Joe Tyson (1948). Its longevity surpassing the many individuals who have done what it takes to build the firm into the longstanding business it is today.

Supporting the local community has always been engrained into Campbell Tyson’s culture and the firm have been involved in numerous ways over its lifetime. Continuing this will be a key focus for the 100 year celebrations.

Campbell Tyson’s Managing Director, Kirsty Bullen, is excited for what’s to come in 2022 and beyond -  “We are extremely proud of our history and take our stewardship very seriously, we look forward to what the next 100 years will look like for our firm and the districts that we proudly serve.”

“As we celebrate this milestone, we would like to thank our clients, friends, associates, neighbours and partners. Being a member of this community has been our privilege and we want to thank you for letting us be part of your story – just as you have been such an important part of ours. We look forward to continuing our centennial celebrations with you all in the months to come.”

We welcome you to view our 100-year journey in more detail here, and to celebrate with us on Facebook as we reminisce and share some of our special moments.
